He has to be doing this on purpose

10 May

My dog totally knows what he’s doing.

Out of all the space in the living room, Joker decided to settle here:

dogs, computers, dogs being funny, kinley baker, romance author, author kinley baker

Every day, I sit in the same position, and Joker knows where I put my computer. So when he sits where my computer goes, I am not amused.

But this position above is even worse. This probably isn’t a clear picture, but he settled his head on my wrist. Then, every time I moved my wrist to type, he growled. That’s right. Growled.

He totally does this on purpose.

Then he finally gets irritated enough and he goes here:

dogs, computers, dogs being funny, kinley baker, romance author, author kinley baker

He goes ten feet across the room, sits in his bed, and stares.

And keeps on staring.

Sometimes, he puts his head down and still stares.

And other times, he turns his back on me, and that’s when I know he’s really angry.

Dogs are a lot smarter than most people think. They have agendas. And you better hope their agenda is not to prevent you from editing, because they will succeed.

Too bad I win in the end. I am almost done editing Endured, despite his interference. 🙂

Have a good weekend!

Why Amy Farrah Fowler from The Big Bang Theory is my first choice BFF

3 Apr

I love The Big Bang Theory. So much in fact, that I constantly watch reruns and I buy my husband shirts with Jim Parsons’ face on them.

Not awkward at all…

I am a fan. I love the show.

More than that, I love Amy. I think she is the most hilarious character on primetime. They’ve really brought her into the group, and she makes me laugh out loud the most.

But sometimes I get a little sad. 😦 Penny and Bernadette don’t always want to hang out with Amy, and although they usually make up for it in the end, it’s pretty clear to the viewer that Amy is not their first choice BFF.

I think this is a tragedy. Amy is awesome.

Beyond her obsession to get them all naked in a bathtub, I think Amy represents something pretty amazing. She’s strange. She’s unconventional. She’s insecure.

She’s a lot of things we don’t see on television, and I find it fascinating that even while she flips her hair and talks about how fashion is kind of her life now, she never loses who she is at the core.

They continue to show her slicing away at brains. While her intellect is occasionally impaired by a rowdy girl’s night out, at the end of the day, she represents a strong woman who comes across as legit.

She’s insecure. As someone also insecure, I appreciate seeing a character like this on television. I love that I can laugh at the strangeness. I can totally relate some of her quirks to my life.

She’s socially awkward. As someone also socially awkward, I enjoy watching her evolve.

We all navigate the murky waters of society. We’re bound to get snagged on a faux pas.

It’s easier to get through the trips when you have strong friends at your back.

I can relate to Amy. I’ve often found myself without friends. It can be a lonely place.

I hope Amy continues to solidify her place in the crowd, so she can show all of us Awkward Social Navigators that we have a chance to belong to a community, too.

I love Penny. And I love Bernadette.

But Amy Farrah Fowler is my first choice BFF.

Being strange is okay. It’s nice to see that message on television.

Let’s get real about Bob’s Burgers

27 Mar

This post is about a very important issue: Bob’s Burgers. It’s an animated television show on FOX. It makes me sad I have to tell you that the show is on FOX. I bet a lot of you don’t watch it.

I know this because I heard rumors it was almost canceled after the first season.

*raises angry fist*

But they brought it back for a second season.

*cheerleader high kick*

Ouch, totally pulled a muscle.

Anyway, Bob’s Burgers is hilarious. It’s about a family who owns a burger place. But the family is… Wait for it… HILARIOUS.

If you are a fan of the show, go down to the comments and voice your enthusiasm to prove to the people who don’t watch they are missing out. I’m sure you are way more convincing than me.

The three kids are like the greatest three kids ever. I’ve tried to describe why they are so awesome, and I can’t come up with anything compelling enough.

Seriously, you should watch Bob’s Burgers. I dare you.

The humor is just so… Honest? Self-aware? Spot on? It’s life, man. But with a certain spin. The normal becomes funny because what is normal anyway? We’re all strange.

Each character in the show feels like a real person, or perhaps someone we once knew, or someone we’d want to know.

Every episode makes me laugh out loud, and I’m pretty sure the humor isn’t completely offensive. Maybe it is… But I’m pretty sure it’s mostly jokes that won’t raise a ton of red flags.

Actually, you should report back. I might be off base. I don’t get offended very easily. (This is not an invitation to name call. I will cry.)

Since I’ve tried to convince you to watch something you probably don’t watch right now, I am willing to do the same for you. What is a show everyone should watch that you think is hilarious? Please share with us and I will report back as long as I can manage to find an episode to view.

Bob’s Burgers for life! (Read the Special’s Board every episode… That alone is worth it.)
